I had a dream last night and it fit me like a glove

^Butthole Surfers (no joke, that's their name)

Wearing mom's pants that she added a cuff to, heels from New Look, top from Wet Seal, belt from Topshop and a bow tie I made. Love the idea of trousers that are loose at the ankle but slightly too short with these shoes. I found these two wooden hummingbirds in a cupboard no idea what they are but they're beautiful. :)

RTW Spring/Summer 2011

Although I feel it is way too early to even think about spring and summer, I have finally had time to look through most of the collections. So far, I have three favourites. Here are two of them. (Pictures from Style.com, click on them to see them bigger.)

Erdem:

Pure spring romance. My favourites are the bottom row, especially the three on the left. Also the middle dress on the top row - I loveeeee that lace collar and the sheer sleeves, and the second from the left on the same row - the print and floaty skirt make it look beautifully layered. The height of the ties on the shoes also mean that there isn't too much leg.

Holly Fulton:

One word: wow. I've loved Holly Fulton since I first saw her designs on Asos (Art Deco/ electrical circuit shifts and jewellery - pictures below) in December last year. And I've loved 60's Art Deco since I saw some interesting furniture on the Sims 2, asked my dad about it, and did some research a longg time ago. See, video games are educational!

Back to the collection. My favourite looks are most definately the black fur coat and body suit and orange blouse with the black furryskirt on the top row purely because they exclude so much glamour! Loving the sunglasses too. Basically I love this whole collection (which is why I posted it all except for one bikini, and that was because the model was scary skinny) but if I had to pick a (more wearable) favourite, it would be the far right on the second row or the far right on the bottom row (plus all of the bottom row.. and the third row..). Gah, too much amazingness!

And the best part is, she's British! :)

Meet the critters

I'm into naming things at the moment. Apart from my various wierd and wonderful painting names, I have Wallace (my iPod) and Gromit (C's iPod), Horace (my phone) and Horatio (C's phone). During the weekend I made (literally) a bunch of new pendant friends.

Meet Dwayne, the first to be born (and if I'm honest, my favourite).

Dwayne was originally going to be a gold octopus but I couldn't be bothered to make 8 legs and I decided I liked him multi-coloured. So he turned out as a retro robot. And I've loved the name Dwayne ever since my parents once reminisced about their college days and my mom said, 'I can't remember what he was called.. but it was a very typical crazy eighties name.. DWAYNE!'. Plaus Dwayne is easy to write as a registration number.

Next came Paul (the stylized octopus). I admit Paul is more a collection of shiny things but I still had octopuses on the brain at this point. Paul was a birthday present for my friend S who loves shiny things.

While looking for chains for Paul, I found this adorable elephant which I believe was once a button on something. So I turned it into a hook-y thing. It can be an earring (only one though and I sadly don't have any other piercings), attached to a hair grip which is how I wore it in the last post, a pendant if the hook is twisted, or just a pretty thing. It is, as yet, unnamed.

Then I found some clear beads and decided I was still in the mood for robots. So Robbie was born. Robbie's named after a robot in one of Isaac Asimov's robot short stories.

And another robot, Tex, named after the TX Terminator in Terminator 3: Judgement Day and sort of inspired by this Topshop robot brooch which I love and want, badly. (Tex looks better in real life, I promise. It was jsut very hard to get a decent picture.)

The brooch reminds me of Marvin, the Paranoid Android in the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy film. I seriously love robots. :)

Ps. I have just hurt my ankle again (hockey this time) so outfit pictures may be a bit hard for the next few days..

Yawn, yawn, yawn, we're all long gone

^Les Savy Fav

Knitwear comes around every autumn/winter. It's generally the same: big, chunky, warm knits (that are kinda practical except you need to be able to see all layers which means a cold front and boiling back - about the most practical fashion gets) with a slight theme. If I remember correctly, it was Fairisle last year (which I personally am not too keen on unless it is one thing that's VERY nice) and this year it's ski knits. My best friend C really likes ski knits and so when I found this jumper I immediately thought of her.

This jumper is quite a bit older than me - my mom bought it for my dad sometime in the eighties I think. And she says this just proves her point that trends go round in cycles and that the cyles are getting shorter (20-odd years seems a long cycle to me but I've probably not been aware of most of it). But I love this jumper becuase it's warm and I have a thing about wearing my dad's massive jumpers with leggings. I love things with a history.

Also wearing leggings from H&M, heels from Primark, my favourite hematite bracelet which I've had for years and only just figured out how to undo the clasp of and a random metal elephant thing which I found in the bead box and now can be used for anything. :)

Ps. One of my favourite things to do (and how I find wonderful songs) is to go on songmeanings and type in random words then discover songs with them in. Try it, it's fuuun. And it's how I came up with this title.

Inspiration - Grandeur and the generally wierd beautiful

Wearing a top from Zara, my mom's pants that she altered and a book necklace I made with a key from some anklet and a necklace. I'm not Christian - I'm atheist actually; I've just always liked crosses. Which is a bit of a problem seeing as they're a big religious symbol..

After seeing a photo of Bjรถrk performing at Lee Mcqueen's tribute ceremony (which unfortunately, I can't find) I've got grandeur and wierdness on the brain. There went any hopes of an elegant minimalism. I'm reminded of Prada's SS10 lookbook (below), but darker and more obscure.

Okay this is turning into an inspiration post. Anything to not have to write my essay.

This last photo is my absolute favourite. I'm in love with that jacket. So much that I am considering finding a studded leather jacket somewhere and painting a slogan on the back. Seriously. :)
